Modular Collographs

Three trapezoid plates are rearranged to make over 75 configurations. The plates are heavily inked and run through an etching press to create a deep emboss.

Geometry has always been an interest for me and this work draws on my innate aesthetics and influences. Having lived half my life in India and half in Hawaii and exposed to Mughal, Indian and Hawaiian art forms, I see parallels in not only the printmaking techniques (wood blocks and natural dyes) but also the geometric patterns and motifs. These parallels of disparate cultures reveal our shared human experience of understanding our world and creating. Geometric shapes in their repetition and complexity, offer the possibility of infinity.

Created between 2018 and 2021. The same plates were used in 2015 to create an older set of prints.

Large prints: Collograph on BFK, 30" x 44". Small prints: Collograph on BFK, 22" x 30"
